Details in Ljubljana
Another bragging point about the "photographer's eye" is noticing little details, and recording them in photos. But the exercise in spotting details can be useful in many other activities. In this post, we pay homage to Slovenia's treasure of a capital.
An "eye for detail" is a cliché that applies to many professions and many activities, including photography, design, translation, editing, proofreading, engineering, and the list goes on. A good photo of a detail is good for education, research, or investigations.
A photographer needs to practice the art of spotting details, taking photos of them, and then revisit these from time to time. This also improves a designer's eye. You can build a library of detail photos and use it for inspiration later.
However, if you want to put together a gallery of "Details", you will soon realize that this is an annoyingly wide and general topic. Details of what, where?
I tried to compile a selection of all "detail" photos I took in 2025 and 2026. But almost every one of these can belong to other, more interesting categories such as "weird sculptures", "shop windows", "interesting signs", "lanterns" etc. After some struggles, I decided that less will be more, and I selected some street details from Ljubljana, Slovenia. I just had to randomly pick a trip we had recently.
These photos are all touristy attempts to capture interesting details; I have much better pictures to share later. But Ljubljana is beautiful and these photos are interesting enough. They are also the result of a constraint: if you go out to a city walk with a zoom lens and you don't have time to replace the lens all the time, and the back to carry two cameras, well... all you will be able to photograph is details.
As always, all the photos have been taken by me, using a Canon EOS D camera. None of the photos were edited or modified, except for the occasional straightening when my clumsy hands made the image slanted.
