Portrait of a Guide
A guide is much more than someone who stands in front of a group of tourists, lecturing them on whatever they are gazing at. This post shows all the other faces.
This post is to introduce the new website of a tour guide I am closely related to. We had to find portraits to use on her website.
The challenge is that I have a distaste for posed photos: I always want to catch a good moment. It is also a challenge to photograph her in the midst of a group because you need to be mindful of the privacy rights of everyone else in the group. Also, most of her previous tours were done for someone else (such as an agency), which makes it difficult to claim credit for any "working as a guide" photos.
So, for now, we decided to show her "travel enthusiast" side, publishing photographs at various trips. In my view, a travel enthusiast is also the best travel guide – because she can put herself in the position of the traveler. She can empathize with the excitement and the occasional issues of her guests.
All the photos on the website have been taken by myself. In addition to her portraits, there are photos of Budapest. Which means it's high time to post more about Budapest in this blog, too.
